Randy Bryan’s New Pro Extreme Turbo ’70 Chevelle From JBRC!

Your agent continues to be blown away with the crop of photos of new cars that continue to show up in his Inbox.
The latest is a sure head-turner and one of the more unique cars your agent has seen in quite some time.

As you can see above, this Pro Extreme car is something else. It belongs to Randy Bryan, who expects to debut the ’70 Chevelle at the ADRL season-opening race on March 30-31 at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston.

It comes from Jerry Bickel Race Cars, which always does an amazing job, but this car goes a stretch beyond unique.
In addition to the body style, the car will also be a turbo-powered car, and will be getting the twin-turbo treatment shortly.

From what your agent gathered, Bryan hopes to test the car before Dragpalooza VIII in Houston. It’s going to be a car to watch – for a number of reasons – that is for sure.

ADRL Top Sportsman Ready To Shine In 2012

There is incredible anticipation surrounding the Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman class as the 2012 American Drag Racing League (ADRL) season prepares to begin.

It will mark the first full season for the popular class in the ADRL and the world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league has also taken numerous steps to make the Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman class in the ADRL even more unique and innovative.

For beginners, the TS class, like every other professional class in the ADRL, will have a championship points race encompassing all 10 events on the 2012 ADRL Tour.

The season begins on March 30-31 at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, the first of 10 opportunities for Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman drivers to rack up points en route to a possible championship.

The championship points fund in Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman includes an impressive $10,000 payout to the driver who accumulates the most points over the 10 events, earning the world championship.

Payouts in the championship fund will be paid out to the top 10 finishers in the points standings.

In addition to earning points based on performance at each ADRL event, there is a unique and highly advantageous opportunity for drivers to earn participation points.

The ADRL revamped its participation points system for all classes, including Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman.

Drivers will earn 25 participation points at each event should they make a qualifying attempt. They can also earn an extra 250 points for attending all 10 events, meaning a driver could earn 500 points by simply making a qualifying run at each of the 10 events in 2012.

It’s also 500 points that could go a long way to determining a world champion.

“This really puts an emphasis on making all the races in order to have a chance to win a world championship. Each race is going to be important,” ADRL President Tim McAmis said.

Points at each event are awarded as follows: 500 to winner; 400 to runner-up; 300 to semifinalist; 200 to quarterfinalist; 100 for qualifying.

As far as event payouts for each event, the winner will get $3,000, runner-up gets $1,500, semifinalists get $500, quarterfinalists earn $400 and qualifiers will get $300.

To view full payout information, visit www.adrl.us/competition/purse.

In addition, a huge Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman event will take place during an ADRL weekend during the first half of the 2012 season. This special race will offer one of the largest payouts ever posted in the history of Top Sportsman racing.

Next, the ADRL is anticipating such strong turnouts at each event, it announced it will go to a 32-car qualifying field if 32 or more drivers show up to participate in Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman at any event.

“I know there’s been a lot of racers and fans expecting some huge car counts in Top Sportsman at a lot of events, so we want to make sure all of these drivers know that if 32 or more cars show up at any of our 10 races, we will do a 32-car qualifying field,” McAmis said.

In addition to the impressive event and championship payouts for the class, McAmis also said the list of contingency sponsors continues to grow at a rapid rate.

“We have a lot of commitments from companies and there are new contingency agreements coming in each day. It’s going to continue to grow and the number will be significant for all classes, including TS, by the time the 2012 season begins,” McAmis said. “A lot of companies want to be involved and we will release each contingency sponsor when it becomes official.”

Contingency postings can be seen at www.adrl.us/sponsors/contingency.

Lastly, all drivers planning to race in Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman in 2012 will need to have an ADRL license. To download a 2012 ADRL License Application, visit www.adrl.us/competition/rules.

The world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league announced the partnership on Friday, making Fineline the ADRL’s official choice for all its sign and graphics needs.

“We’ve been in drag racing industry since the inception of Fineline. There’s a strong drag racing culture in our business,” Fineline Vice President/General Manager Steve Johnson said.

“We know the industry very well and drag racing is near and dear to our hearts. The ADRL has a lot to offer and it’s a great organization. I’ve always enjoyed the racing there, and we all look forward to working with them and their teams in 2012.”

Richard Petty and the ADRL?

Well, your agent was certainly intrigued after reading a particular article on Competition Plus.

It detailed Richard Petty and his Petty’s Garage perhaps dabbling in drag racing and maybe even in the ADRL’s new SuperCar Showdown. Now, that would be amazing. The new ADRL SuperCar Showdown has certainly got a lot of attention and this is more good news in that regard.

Here’s the official word from the article:

(Greg)Steadman also said Petty’s Garage is exploring involvement in the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), especially since the recent announcement of the ADRL SuperCar Showdown.

According to the official ADRL website, the ADRL SuperCar Showdown will showcase the latest factory-produced, dealership-available automobiles in all-out drag racing with no handicap starts or performance restrictions. While current offerings from the Ford Motor Company, the Chrysler Corporation and General Motors will take center stage in the initial events, there are few limits to the variety of machines that are eligible to compete.

“We have definitely felt around and we are building some cars that will be raced in NHRA classes and there will be some that will be just used for match races at events,” Steadman said. “I have not seen the rules or anything yet (about the ADRL SuperCar). Mainly what we are focusing on right now is late model cars. The late model drag car builds, the late model aftermarket performance builds, those things how they relate to the street car, the autocross and drag racing are what we are focusing on.”

It will be interesting to see where it goes from here, but your agent can confirm that a lot of big names are interested in the ADRL’s new SuperCar Showdown.

Jerry Haas Race Cars Returns As ADRL Sponsor For 2012 Season

Jerry Haas Race Cars returns as an ADRL sponsor for 2012

When looking back at the 2011 season in the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) class, Jerry Haas Race Cars (JHRC) were prominently featured in the winner’s circle.

In 2012, JHRC will be just as involved with the ADRL and the XPS class.

The world’s premier eighth-mile drag racing league announced on Thursday at Jerry Haas Race Cars has returned as a sponsor for the 2012 ADRL Tour, and with another large client list, Haas is very much looking forward to the 2012 ADRL season.

“I think the ADRL will continue to go to a higher level and I’m very excited to see where it goes in 2012,” Haas said. “They’re doing all the right things in all directions, whether it’s rules or safety, and I’m excited to be on board for 2012.”

A longtime standout chassis builder in the Pro Stock world, Haas and his team took that to a new level in the ADRL in 2011.

Jerry Haas

Cary Goforth debuted his new JHRC-built GXP in July and ended up with three wins and the XPS world championship, while his father, Dean, debuted a new car at the start of the season and ended up with another victory.

Add in two victories by Scott Hintz and another by Tony Gillig, and teams using cars built by JHRC ended up in the winner’s circle at seven of the eight races during a record-breaking 2011 XPS season.

In addition, Richie Stevens and his JHRC Mustang also won the Battle For The Belts, helping cap off a memorable season for Haas, who has always held the ADRL’s XPS class in high regard.

“I think it’s one of the best classes in the ADRL. All of those drivers represent themselves very well. It’s a very professional class and that’s what we need,” Haas said. “Everybody in that class is tough. You can’t miss any run.”

Other XPS drivers with a car built by JHRC include Doug Kirk, Elijah Morton, Brian Gahm, Richard Penland, Larry O’Brien, Cale Aronson and Trevor Eman, who debuted a new Mustang last year.

Kirk, Morton and Gahm will debut new cars for the 2012 season, as will John DeFlorian, who will be campaigning a new 2012 Camaro built by JHRC.

The 2012 ADRL Tour begins on March 30-31 at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston.

“With the help of Jerry Haas Race Cars, the Extreme Pro Stock class went to a whole new level in 2011 and we’re thrilled to have them return as a sponsor for 2012,” ADRL Executive Vice President Jeff Fortune said.

Haas, who started out in a modest one-car garage and now works out of a standout facility in the St. Louis area, can’t wait to see the new Camaro in action.

“I think it’s going to be amazing,” Haas said. “One thing about the new Camaro body is you can put the big tires on it and not have to rework the body. It’s just an awesome car.”

Long acknowledged as one of the best chassis builders in the sport and is a 12-time Car Craft Magazine All-Star chassis builder, Haas and JHRC are also involved in other classes. They built the current Mustang for Extreme 10.5 star Billy Glidden and have built cars for drivers in the ADRL’s new Top Sportsman class, which Haas is a huge fan of.

“I absolutely love the Top Sportsman class and I really like what the ADRL is doing with it,” Haas said. “More classes means more involvement and that helps out everyone.”

ADRL’s New SuperCar Showdown To Offer Competition For Manufacturers Around The Globe

After an overwhelming reception to the announcement of its new SuperCar Showdown, the American Drag Racing League (ADRL) has released details of the revolutionary category which distinguishes the class from all others in the sport. Although interpreted by some as a division that would include only the high-performance production models of traditional American manufacturers, the format of the ADRL SuperCar Showdown series will, in fact, allow vehicles from virtually any automaker in the world.

The ADRL SuperCar Showdown will showcase the latest factory-produced, dealership-available automobiles in all-out drag racing with no handicap starts or performance restrictions. While current offerings from the Ford Motor Company, the Chrysler Corporation and General Motors will take center stage in the initial events, there are few limits to the variety of machines that are eligible to compete.

ADRL President Tim McAmis is still astonished by the response from automakers, racers and fans after the initial announcement of the series.

“It’s absolutely incredible, actually,” McAmis said. “We never dreamed the ADRL SuperCar Showdown would draw this kind of attention in such a short period. The ADRL staff went from hopes of a good response to devoting all our time to answering phone calls and e-mails from sponsors, racers and even the manufacturers themselves.
“Everyone is thrilled with the fact eliminations for the class will be conducted on Saturday night at our events in front of the prime spectator crowd. They love the close relationship we plan to build with the dealership outlets. Everybody wants to be involved with the ADRL SuperCar Showdown.”

ADRL broadcast personality Bret Kepner added, “The initial excitement of the announcement centered on the thrill of seeing the Fords, Dodges and Chevys waging war. However, nowhere in our original press release did we state the ADRL SuperCar Showdown would be restricted to American cars. In fact, we have spent an inordinate amount of time to determine how many vehicles worldwide could actually be represented in this series and we’ve uncovered more than 60 different factory-produced cars that could compete in the class.”

In reality, there could be dozens more models made competitive in the ADRL SuperCar Showdown since there will be no criteria for eligibility other than production-line availability. Parity among supercharged, turbocharged and naturally-aspirated engines will be achieved by vehicle weight restrictions for each form of induction.
Since the initial events in the ADRL SCS series will include only the eight quickest qualifiers based on elapsed times recorded during qualifying sessions, Kepner, McAmis and drag racing champion Jeff Teuton quickly determined it would take a machine with a manufacturers power rating of no less than 400 horsepower to be competitive in the class.

However, the current global horsepower war among automakers has ensured most marques, no matter how obscure, are producing at least one model capable of the required power. The Ford Motor Company has no less than nine Mustangs making more than 400 horsepower from the factory and five of those are putting out more than 500, noted Kepner. Likewise, Dodge has four Challenger models and three Dodge Chargers with more than 400 horsepower, led by the DragPak V-10 Challenger at 600 horsepower. When the Viper returns to the marketplace in late 2012 under the new SRT brand, it will offer the same V-10 power plant and a V8 model.

Much attention has been directed to Chevrolet’s upcoming COPO Camaro, however, McAmis was first to offer a reminder of other Chevy offerings. The currently-produced supercharged ZL1 Camaro is rated at 580 horsepower and is a perfect fit for the class. Even the naturally-aspirated Camaro SS packs more 420 horsepower. The supercharged ZR1 Corvette is rated at more than 630 horsepower from the factory and the naturally-aspirated Z06 model is rated at more than 500 horsepower.

“There are a lot of combinations which can be made to work well in the ADRL SuperCar Showdown” drag racing champion Jeff Teuton said. “The traditional Detroit offerings have an advantage in that they’re designed specifically for straight-line competition. The fact the ADRL competes on an eighth-mile course will also make the competition a bit more equal between the supercharged, turbocharged and naturally-aspirated cars. There are a lot of possibilities.”

The list of potentially competitive production cars for the category, many previously unseen in drag racing, already has competitors discussing their options. In the world of modern supercars, the rear-wheel-drive platform is still one of the most effective. While there are plenty of marques which produce massively powerful cars costing several hundred thousand dollars each, there are several economic machines with which to compete in the ADRL SCS series. With the availability of everything from the supercharged 556-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V to the naturally-aspirated 429 hp Hyundai Equus, there seems to be a world of diversity ready to race in the ADRL SuperCar Showdown.

“The Nissan GT-R PE is one of the only six-cylinder production cars making more than 500 hundred horsepower from the factory and it appears to fit perfectly in the class,” McAmis said. “We don’t expect to see a Bugatti Veyron pulling to the starting line at the first race but, with the amazing interest expressed by the media, the sponsors and the fans, the ADRL SuperCar Showdown could evolve into a truly global battle.”

In the ADRL SuperCar Showdown series, the ADRL will utilize basic rules for safety, modification and construction. The ADRL will announce specific rules for the ADRL SuperCar Showdown in the coming weeks.
Listed below is a comparison of the current offerings of American manufacturers and many of the worlds other supercars, any of which could be potential ADRL SuperCar Showdown entries.
