Scruggs Headlines Early Qualifiers at National Guard ADRL in Memphis
MILLINGTON, TN (May 22, 2009) — A brilliant, record-setting run by Pro Extreme star Jason Scruggs (above) highlighted the opening round of qualifying today for National Guard ADRL Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II at Memphis Motorsports Park. Scruggs covered the Memphis eighth mile in an incredible 3.66 seconds at 207.43 miles per hour with his supercharged ’68 Camaro, making it the quickest and fastest pass in history by a full-bodied drag racing car.“To be honest, I feel very fortunate,” the cotton farmer and businessman from Saltillo, Mississippi said. “I knew it was on a good pass, but it surprised me just how good it was. Everything had to come together just about perfect for that to happen.” Also taking qualifying leads into Saturday are Maryland’s Jim Halsey in Pro Nitrous, also in a ’68 Camaro, Jeff Naiser in Extreme 10.5 with his turbocharged 2002 Grand Am, Broderick Jackson in Pro Extreme Motorcycle and New Yorker John Montecalvo in the National Guard ADRL’s new Extreme Pro Stock class.
Memphis Drags II action resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday and will include two more rounds of qualifying followed by four elimination rounds for 16-car/bike fields in each National Guard ADRL professional category.

Bubba Goes Boom!
Things didn’t work out so well for 2006 Pro Extreme champion Bubba Stanton in his first test pass at the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II, as he suffered a nasty engine explosion and flash fire about 150 feet out.
Fortunately, Stanton was uninjured, but the Widowmaker crew has a lot of work on their hands to get the ‘63 Corvette back in shape for qualifying tonight.

National Guard ADRL Returns to Memphis
O’FALLON, MO (May 6, 2009) – Following a two-year hiatus, the National Guard American Drag Racing League (ADRL) is returning to Memphis Motorsports Park May 22-23, with the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II, which is shaping up to be another standing-room only event for the all-eighth-mile drag racing series.
During its first two national events this year, the National Guard ADRL set new attendance records at major racing facilities in Houston, TX, and Valdosta, GA, and series president and co-founder Kenny Nowling expects that trend to continue.
“I’ve missed going to Memphis Motorsports Park and meeting all the great drag racing fans there,” Nowling said. “Since we last visited, thanks to our sponsors the National Guard ADRL has been able to implement a permanent complimentary ticket policy, so more people than ever can bring all of their family and friends. I’m looking forward to welcoming a packed house both days to the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II.”
Already a pass to witness thrilling on-track action, every National Guard ADRL race ticket also grants entry to the pits, where fans will be able to get up close and personal with the drivers, watch their teams in action between rounds and check out some of the finest motorsports machinery on the planet.
On Friday, National Guard ADRL teams will participate in open testing from noon to 6 p.m., with one round of qualifying scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. for all five professional classes: Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme Pro Stock, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme, the quickest and fastest eighth-mile drag racing class in the world.
Saturday’s on-track action will include two scheduled qualifying sessions, with eliminations for all professional classes beginning at 4 p.m. and each day concluding with a thrilling pass by a fire-breathing jet car. Each National Guard ADRL event also features an extensive race fan experience zone and manufacturer’s midway offering everything from souvenirs to hard-core performance parts for racing and automotive enthusiasts.
