Speedtech Nitrous Presents Chase to 3.80s

(3-24-2008) TUSCALOOSA, AL – Considering the overwhelming number of Speedtech customers breaking into the once elusive 3-second zone over the 1/8th mile in the past few weeks, the Tuscaloosa, Alabama-based company has decided to take things to the next level once again.  This time, though, it’s not another ground-breaking development in nitrous technology from Speedtech that will take racers to the performance level they want to be at--it’s a 5,000 dollar incentive.

While running a 3.90 has been the lifetime pursuit of many racers, Speedtech and the many quality engine builders they work with have made this a very attainable goal.  As has become their calling card in years past, Speedtech has announced they will provide a $5,000 reward for their first customer utilizing the new Speedtech Cigaro manifold system to break the 3.80-second barrier during Pro Nitrous eliminations at a 2008 Flowmaster American Drag Racing League presented by the National Guard event.

“We know how hard these guys work to go out and run like they do week after week,” said Speedtech Business Manager Jason Sharp.  “And considering the amount of time and effort these teams have exhausted in the off season, both on the dyno and on the track, we feel it’s only a matter of time before a Speedtech team knocks down a 3.80-lap.”

Feel free to stop by the Speedtech Innovative Nitrous display on the manufacturer’s midway at the 2nd annual Shelor.com Spring Drags at Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, OK over the weekend of April 25 and 26th. To be eligible for the bonus, the winning car also must carry a special Speedtech 3.80 decal, available at the Tulsa track or by calling the phone number listed below.

Videographer ‘Bubba’ Barnes Passes Away

Television producer and videographer Timothy Scott “Bubba” Barnes, whose career in motorsports spanned 30 years, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2008, after battling cancer since 2007. He was 48 years old.

A longtime racing enthusiast, Barnes began his television career as a news cameraman with WCYB-TV in his hometown of Bristol, TN, and became a cameraman for ESPN’s drag racing coverage in 1985. He became one of the original employees of Masters Entertainment Group (MEG) in Bristol and went on to produce and direct MEG television shows for a variety of networks including ESPN, ESPN2 and SPEED Channel.

Barnes was responsible for all facets of production for MEG’s weekly “Inside Drag Racing” series which covered hundreds of events from dozens of racing associations. He also produced the “Street Rodder” weekly series for ESPN and was the chief videographer for “NHRA Heat” and dozens of other shows. As chief videographer for MEG for the past decade, Barnes attended over 100 events per season and covered a wide range of motorsports, including most American Drag Racing League national events. He maintained relationships with thousands of individuals throughout the racing world including drivers, crew chiefs, constructors and officials throughout his career.

Barnes actively participated in sprint car racing and drag racing and also was a capable builder of street rods and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. His knowledge of all aspects of hot rodding was employed in his television productions and helped garner major attention for MEG television shows, resulting in several industry awards.

Easily identifiable, “Bubba” Barnes enjoyed the friendship of many of racing’s biggest stars. “There was nobody who didn’t like Bubba,” MEG President Ted Jones said, “and everybody respected his opinion. He was an integral member of our company and, like the fans and racers who knew him, we will miss him tremendously.”

ADRL Launches Innovative New Rewards Credit Card Program

O’Fallon, Mo. (March 13, 2008) The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard, the nation’s premier sanctioning body for the sport of eighth-mile drag racing, is pleased to announce the introduction of its new credit card program. The ADRL Rewards VISA credit card will provide special benefits to all ADRL racers, members and fans. The ADRL Rewards VISA credit card also will be offered to all ADRL employees and their families.

The new credit card program delivers unprecedented benefits: the cardholder can earn ADRL Rewards points on everyday spending toward discounts on ADRL officially licensed merchandise as well as discounts on products from several ADRL sponsors. Right now, all purchases made directly from ADRL earn double points. Points also can be redeemed for travel, merchandise or even cash back. In addition, ADRL Rewards VISA cardholders will receive a ten-percent discount on all ADRL officially licensed merchandise when paying with their ADRL Rewards VISA. The new card comes with a competitive, low promotional interest rate (APR) for balance transfers, a feature that allows the user to pay off other higher interest loans or credit card balances.

“We wanted to develop a unique card program for ADRL that actually helps the cardholder support the ADRL while earning Rewards points and saving money,” Jim Duncan, Chief Marketing Officer for PartnersFirst, said. The credit card is issued by PartnersFirst Affinity Services, a credit card issuer and division of Torrey Pines Bank of San Diego, CA.

“The ADRL is without a doubt the fastest-growing motorsports property in America,” said Tysinger Promotions President Wendy Stallings, who brokered the partnership. “We are working on additional partnerships with several major companies and some big announcements are forthcoming.”

“We are extremely excited to offer this new ADRL Rewards VISA card to our racers, members, fans and employees,” ADRL President Kenny Nowling said. “It is yet another example of the continued growth of the ADRL and reflects our goal to continue to create value for our loyal racers, members and fans. Wendy and the entire staff at Tysinger Promotions continue to create partnerships and develop programs that are not only beneficial to the ADRL, but to our racers and fans as well.”
