First Look: Stoken’s New McAmis Camaro

The guys up at Tim McAmis Race Cars in Hawk’s Point, MO, have been working hard to complete this new Pro Nitrous ‘68 Camaro in time for Pat Stoken to race it in the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II, May 22-23, at Memphis Motorsports Park.
The Eureka, MT-based driver is scheduled to pick up his new 833 c.i. Fulton-powered piece this weekend, with testing to follow shortly thereafter.
Nearly a mirror image to teammate Jim Halsey’s killer McAmis-built Camaro, your Agent expects Stoken to make some big noise with it at Memphis.

Timblin Featured at Dragbike.com
Walt Timblin, your Agent’s go-to guy in the Pro Extreme Motorcycle pits, has been named Person of the Week over at www.Dragbike.com.
On race days, Timblin acts as crew chief to PXM elapsed time record holder Charlie Prophit and his brother, Matt, winner of the ADRL’s most recent race earlier this month at Valdosta, GA. He’s also a master welder and his Timblin Chassis shop in Baxley, GA, turns out some of the finest two-wheeled racing machines in the world.
Nice to see one of ADRL’s own getting some well-deserved recognition.

Riesterer Rebuilding as “Mad Scientist”
Your Agent received this photo and a brief note explaining Pro Nitrous racer Doug Riesterer has been hard at work in his Victoria, TX, race shop rebuilding his ‘68 Camaro after bouncing it off both walls early in March during first-round qualifying for the ADRL season opener at Houston Raceway Park.
In the meantime, Riesterer announced a new three-year partnership with LenMar Motorsports in Mansfield, TX, joining LenMar Pro Extreme drivers Gaylen Smith, Grant McCrary and Ken Thomas.
After receiving a new Tim McAmis body a couple of weeks back, apparently all Riesterer needs to do now is install the windows and build a header before taking the Camaro to the House of Hot Rods, a LenMar company, for some minor body work. It will then be covered in a custom “Mad Scientist” themed wrap at Skinz Wraps in Dallas before testing begins at Texas Raceway shortly afterward.
“I’m anxious to get back in the car and I’m confident that with all the talent in the LenMar camp, we’ll get the car sorted out rather quickly,” Riesterer said.
Your Agent understands it’s been one tough slog to get back in racing shape and Riesterer understandably wants to thank everyone who helped make his return even possible, most notably LenMar Motorsports, Al Anabi Racing, Tim McAmis Race Cars, Speedtech Nitrous, Reher-Morrison Racing Engines, Santhuff Suspension Specialists, and K&S Machine.
Hopefully, we’ll see the Mad Scientist back to his Pro Nitrous experimenting next month in the Quarter-Max Memphis Drags II.

Major Memphis Drags Announcement On the Way
That unmistakeable air of elation and accomplishment from the ADRL sales pros is impossible to mask.
Sensing something was up, your Agent took time away from tossing quarters in a Dixie cup and pressed his trusty drinking glass to the wall of the ADRL Sales & Marketing office here at worldwide headquarters where he distinctly heard mention of a new title sponsor for the May 22-23, Memphis Drags II.
Under threat of maximum penalty from the powers that be, your Agent can’t yet reveal the sponsor’s name, but he expects an official announcement could come as soon as this afternoon.

UPDATED: Swearingen Breaks 200 in Testing
The message arrived late last night, short and to the point: “Travis goes 3.80 @ 200 testing in Tulsa.”
Your Agent will attempt to get more details today, but sends congrats to the Swearingen gang on reaching (even if unofficially) that magic double-century number.
UPDATE: Your Agent spoke with Swearingen this afternoon, who revealed the 60-foot time on his 200-mph blast was .977 and he ran 2.56 to half-track in the National Guard ‘41 Willys.
“That’s actually real promising to us because I’ve already run a few hundredths quicker than that early in the run,” he said.
Another of your Agent’s operatives on the scene reported Swearingen’s previous test pass resulted in a 3.85 E.T. with .955 and 2.55 preliminary incrementals, so it looks like a mid-.70s pass at over 200 mph is on its way for Swearingen Motorsports.
“I actually had the same set-up in the car this weekend that I had at one time last year, but just didn’t have the time to go after it then,” Swearingen said. “I think we’ve got something for them now.”
The team was prepared to stick around and continue testing today (Monday), Swearingen added, but heavy rains forecast for the Tulsa area prompted them to bug out and head home early to Missouri. “We’ll be back here (Tulsa Raceway Park) on May 10th, though, and we’ll be trying some new stuff then, too. Over all, this has been a pretty good weekend.”

PX Owner Bush On the Mend
Pro Extreme team owner Mel Bush fell ill Saturday morning at the recently completed ADRL Hardee’s Georgia Drags V, the victim of complications from a previous surgery.
He initially was taken to a hospital near the Cecil, GA, track, but the next day was released and transferred to a hospital near his Port Saint Lucie, FL, home.
Your Agent just received a brief missive from Mel Bush Motorsports representative Rob Kozak saying Bush spent a week in the hospital’s care, but is now at home and continuing to receive treatment on an outpatient basis.
Your Agent joins all ADRL staff and members in wishing Mel a full and speedy recovery.

Estrada Joining PN Ranks
Being a child of the ‘70s, your Agent got pretty excited when he heard Estrada would soon be wheeling a Pro Nitrous ‘63 Corvette at ADRL national events. He soon realized, however, it would not be the perfectly coiffed star of CHIPs, but rather 2007 Puerto Rico Pro Mod champion and 2008 runner-up Hector Estrada, which actually makes a lot more sense, your Agent has to admit.
Anyway, though no date has been set, Estrada will be soon driving a new ADRL car built by PMS Race Cars in Puerto Rico and powered by a 903 c.i. monster motor from Pat Musi Racing Engines.
Your Agent can’t help but think if Ponch had been driving this, those crazy California speeders would never have stood a chance!
