Eliminations for the Summer Drags VIII from U.S. 131 Motorsports Park
SEMIFINALS
SECOND ROUND
Jason Scruggs broke the track record at U.S. 131, running a 3.643 at 207 mph to advance to the semifinals. He will get a bye run to the finals after Von Smith left before the tree was activated in his own bye run. The other semifinal will feature a pair of drivers looking to make their first finals appearance. Todd Martin ran a 3.68 and he will face Terry Leggett, who went 3.72 in his second-round win.
Bob Rahaim won his second-round matchup in Pro Nitrous after Ed Burnley went red, advancing to the semifinals at his hometown track. He will face John Vergotz, while Pat Stoken had another big upset, going 3.88 to upset No. 1 qualifier Doug Riesterer. He will give up lane choice to Rickie Jones, who went 3.83 to beat Robert Patrick Jr. in a great race.
Matt Bertsch continued his underdog story and he'll meet another underdog in the semifinals after Bertsch went 4.128 to beat a red-lighting Doug Kirk. Larry O'Brien went 4.172 to upset Pete Berner. The other semifinal will feature John DeFlorian and Cary Goforth after both went 4.10 in semifinal victories.
Chuck Mohn advanced to the semifinals in Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman, running 4.152 to beat Glenn Butcher. He races Bruce Thrift in the semis. The other semifinal features William Brown III and Barry Danilink.
Tommy D'Aprile put together a solid 3.72 to advance in a wild first round in Pro Extreme. Mick Snyder scraped the wall after going on two wheels and lost in the first round, and Brandon Pesz's car caught fire after his winning 3.735 run. D'Aprile, meanwhile, will face Jason Scruggs in an excellent quarterfinal race.
Eric McKinney put together a great 4.108, but there were plenty of first-round upsets. Dan Vantine went 4.194 to upset No. 2 qualifier Casey Stemper, who had a huge lead and then had engine trouble after the 330-foot mark. Dave Norris followed with a red-light win against No. 3 qualifier Billy Vose.
Larry O'Brien led an upset-filled first round in Extreme Pro Stock, as No. 3 qualifier Kevin Bealko broke before their matchup. He will face Pete Berner in the quarterfinals. Another upset included No. 10 qualifier Matt Bertsch, who ran 4.15 to upset points leader Richie Stevens Jr. He will face Doug Kirk, who had a .001 reaction time in his victory.
Pat Musi picked up a big win in Aeromotive Fuel Systems Pro Modified, going 3.968 at 189 mph to knock off No. 2 qualifier Jeff Naiser. He will meet Rickie Smith in the semifinals of the 8-car field after Smith went a round-best 3.90. The other semi will feature Mike Castellana and Mike Janis, who ran 3.96.

Wiliam Brown III went 4.419 to knock off Ronnie Davis in the first round of Summit Racing Top Sportsman. He will face No. 1 qualifier Bob Gulitti, who ran 4.145. Another huge match-up in the quarterfinals will feature Chuck Mohn and Glenn Butcher.
