The ADRL has just received word of an amazing entry for the SuperCar Showdown category at the upcoming Gateway Drags IV presented by CarSafe to be contested at Gateway Motorsports Park this weekend in St. Louis.
Past National Record Holder and National Event finalist Jimmy Ronzello will be in attendance with a supercharged 5.4L Ford Mustang Cobra Jet but this one is a bit different. It’s a manually-shifted version and it’s a convertible!
Ronzello and partner George Wright will debut the wild new Ford in the first qualifying session and early test runs have Ronzello more excited than he’s been in years.
“With the help of SuperCar Showdown star Chris Holbrook, we just finished the engine and transmission and we’ve given the car a fresh new look inspired by Jeff Teuton and the ADRL,” said Ronzello before leaving his Michigan shop for the haul to St. Louis. “Thank you very much, ADRL, for creating this class! This car is absolutely the most fun of any I have ever driven! Also, we will be bringing catalogues, banners, posters and some hats from Ford Racing for the fans.”
Rozello is equally excited about the huge support he has received for the jump to ADRL competition, adding, “Varsity Ford decided to jump on board for the ADRL series along with ATI, American Racing Headers, Comp Cams, Aeromotive, Ford Racing and, of course, Holbrook Racing Engines.”
Ronzello was one of the first four drivers to receive a new M-607100-CJ Mustang when the vehicles were initially entered in drag racing competition by Ford in 2008 and made some of the first Cobra Jet runs ever with a stick-shift transmission.
Fans will get a chance to see the first manually-shifted entry, (as well as the first convertible), in the new SuperCar Showdown when qualifying for the Gateway Drags IV presented by CarSafe starts at noon CDT on Friday with final eliminations beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
