Commisso Not Hurt After Major Crash At Maple Grove

Aeromotive Fuel Systems Pro Modified driver Ray Commisso was not injured following a major crash during the first round of qualifying on Friday during the American Drag Racing League’s (ADRL) Northeast Drags II presented by Penske at Maple Grove Raceway

Commisso’s Camaro got loose at around 100 feet and took a hard left, crashing into the left concrete barrier, even breaking the concrete barrier free as grass and dirt flew into the air.

A huge fireball ensued from the high-speed crash and oil spill, creating a wild scene that included fire and flying car parts (including most of the front end).

Commisso said there was a problem with the automatic shifter during the run.

“I took my foot off the gas when I felt the car start to get into trouble, but the automatic shifter shifted and the car just jumped and took off on me,” Commisso said. “There was nothing I could do about it at that point and I was just along for the ride.”

Commisso got out of the car almost immediately and under his own power and suffered no serious injuries.

The Northeast Drags II presented by Penske is the ADRL’s second trip to Maple Grove Raceway.
