Your agent had a great time reading an article in the Amarillo newspaper on Summit Racing Equipment Top Sportsman driver Greg Lair.
Lair is the proud owner of a new ZL1 Camaro from Jerry Haas Race Cars, and he is preparing for the ADRL season-opener, CarSafe Dragpalooza VIII, which takes place next weekend at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston.
Here is the section that your agent really enjoyed:
Greg Lair said being in the shop where he and his son shared time together has been
hard for him since his son’s death, but he recently decided he needed something to be excited about, which was part of his motivation behind purchasing the new Camaro. Lair said the car was expensive but wouldn’t specify.
“I thought it would be nice to have something to look forward to, so I decided to go ahead and get a new one,†he said. “This Camaro was coming up so I decided to wait on it.â€
Jerry Haas of Fenton, Mo., and Five Star Race Car Bodies of Twin Lakes, Wis., built the car. General Motors assisted in development and provided access to its wind tunnel in Detroit, Haas said.
Lair described himself as an old-school racer who still uses a five-speed manual transmission instead of an automatic. He also fuels the car with regular gasoline rather than nitrous oxide.
“Nitrous oxide was like cheating when I was a kid so I just never have gotten in to running it,†he said. “I’ve just always liked horsepower, so this is the way we’ve always done it.â€
