Few may know the name Velocity Composites, but many can recognize their products. Responsible for the ultra-popular V4 ’68 Camaro, ’53 Corvette, ’57 Chevy, and ’67 Chevy II, which are distributed through Tim McAmis Performance Parts, along with numerous other body styles and components including hood scoops, wheel tubs and custom colored carbon fiber products, Velocity Composites was the first to introduce the lightweight processes that are still sought after today. Through the latest research and technology, Velocity remains at the forefront when it comes to producing high-quality composites for the performance industry.
In an agreement finalized on Friday, Velocity will acquire the drag racing assets of Cynergy Composites, Inc., a popular performance composite manufacturer. Included in the acquisition are all of body molds produced by Cynergy which consists of the ’67, ’69 and ’70.5 Camaro’s, ’68 Firebird, ’59 Plymouth, C5 Corvette and the upcoming ’67 Mustang. In addition, Velocity will be adding a number of molds for wheel tubs, wings and engine containment devices to go alongside similar products that Velocity currently produces.
To complete the acquisition, Velocity has arranged a partnership with Cynergy’s Tim Hodgins to serve as a consultant and designer for future projects and development.
“Looking forward, I think Tim McAmis Performance Parts and Velocity Composites are better positioned for production and distribution, whereas my real strength and interest is in creating new bodies and new composite products. This deal is a win-win for both of us,” Hodgins explained.
“Being in a different country has always added cost to buying our products and with Cynergy recently landing a Canadian Aerospace Composites Contract, it was time to start a new chapter. Many thanks to our loyal customers and friends; I really appreciate the support over the years. I love the sport of drag racing and plan to stay very involved, just in a different capacity.”
Velocity Composites founder Tim McAmis was pleased with the agreement.
“The acquisition of these assets is a natural lead-in to the expansion already taking place within Velocity Composites,” McAmis said. “We are excited about what’s to come and the opportunity to quickly generate a number of new products for our loyal customers.”
Starting immediately, customers may obtain these products through Tim McAmis Performance Parts, currently the exclusive distributor for Velocity Composites. However, Velocity will soon offer products through online shopping, mail order and also develop dealer programs for business’ interested in becoming distributors.
The much anticipated ’67 Mustang is soon to hit the market with final stages of the production process currently being completed at Velocity. Look for more information and photos to be released soon.
