Bert Jackson
Jackson, of Glen Allen, Va., was pronounced dead shortly afterward by a medical examiner at nearby First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham.
During his third qualifying session, Jackson hit the right wall, the left wall and then barrel-rolled. According to trackside observers, his car first hit the right guardwall, then careened across the track and hit the left guardwall before starting a series of barrel rolls.
Jackson was the driver of a car owned by Enoch Love of Richmond, Va.
The entire ADRL community is deeply saddened by Friday’s incident and offers its most sincere condolences and prayers to Jackson’s family, teammates and friends. Jackson was a passionate competitor, an incredibly kind-hearted human being and touched the lives of many during his drag racing career.
A memorial observance will be held Saturday morning at Rockingham Dragway.

I did not want to believe that this was true. The world just lost such a wonderful and humble man, not only that he was a big FAMILY man. Bert will certainly be missed by everyone here. We looked forward to see his smiling face twice a week dropping off cars. No one could maneuver that trailor like he could. Everytime he would come in he would talk about racing, and giving us updates on the upcoming events. I never had an opportunity to go out and watch him race, but he provided tickets for us and my husband had the privledge twice. Both times he told me that he was an awesome driver and how much he enjoyed the races. We are very saddened by this loss and we offer our condolenses to the Jackson family as well as his racing family. He will sorely be missed but never forgotten.

JUST A FEW THINGS I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU ABOUT BERT JACKSON; i could remember when bert use to ride a motor cycle on one wheel down mountain road from the 711 to randolf ridge!!! @ that point i knew bert had it in him to be something great! what a great lost..another time was when he was getting fitted for the 07 GTO at the shop,he was sitting inside of the car going through the gear box imagening he was shifting, making the sounds and all!!and i asked him Bert is it really that fast man…He replied just a tad bit faster!!…RIP BERT JACKSON MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

I was there Friday at this event, matter of fact the car he was driving; I personally own a 2009 GTO. He drove that 2007 GTO. I was so upset, that I told my husband I promise, I will never go to any more of these events again. When I say he drove that car, he drove it!!! To his family May God Bless You!! My son and I had the opportunity to meet Bert and the E Love Team in Rockingham,NC a few years ago.To us, he was the black professional prostock driver from Virginia that we had a great time talking to.
I was so happy to meet him and his team in the pits, because I’ve heard so much about him and the fast car called LuckyDraw. I just recently retired with 27 years military service at Fort Bragg, NC.
All of my leaders and Subordinates new about the awesome driver named Bert Jackson.
I got tickets for me and my fiance to come on Saturday September 10th 2011 to see my favorite driver Bert.
We were heart broken when we arrived on Saturday morning hearing about the accident.
He will always be a role model to me and my family.

RIP Bert Jackson my thought’s and prayers go out to the family and friend’s. As we go through life we meet all kind’s of people. And i can say Bert was truly one of the the good one’s.
I always enjoyed talking with Bert about drag racing when I would see him in Tony Mangrum’s Shop.The nickname Tony and I as well as others had for Bert was “The Driver”. Bert you were genuine. You will be missed. Jackson Family – you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God Bless You.

Bert Jackson was a friend that everyone whom came in contact with loved him. I race with him for 9 years. I would like to thank Enoch Love for putting this team together. This was a terrible accident to see. Enoch Love, Butch, Adrian, Wayne, Maurice, and I were the team supporting Bert Jackson. Butch bought magic to the team. Bert died doing what he love doing…. Drag Racing. My heart goes out to his wife Mrs. Ness, brother Jimmy, Dakota and Montana. We will truly miss you.

When I heard the news, I couldn’t believe my ears. I was in shock. All I could see was Bert’s smile and hear his laugh. He would always come to drop off cars at DriveTime Neport News. If I was having a bad day he would simply look at me and say “Smile Firecracker!” (I have red hair lol) and continue to slurp on his big gulp. I will hold on to his memory as a positive, hardworking, driver…who could “WHIP” ANYTHING! Know he is in his rightful place, watching over all those he touched. My prayers are with the Jackson Family as well as his racing family.

Please know that while tears fall in the night, joy will arrive in the morning. Bert has won the race to be with his father. Living our lives as he has lived, and shown by example will allow us to enter the same heavely gates. The race is still on. . . . . remember that smile it will carry you thru the quarter mile! I have known Bert for 2 yrs as a friend and a customer of Racing Radios. We are all praying for him and his family. He was always such a happy person and fun to be around. He will be missed greatly.
My condolences to Vanessa and the children, Bert will be truely missed. Bert was alway kind to everyone, and as others have said, he always greeted you with a smile. I have known Bert since Brookland Middle School.
In High School he had a Blue 67 or 68 Camaro it was the best looking car in the parking lot.
The last time I saw Bert was in 2000 at the Gas station on Mountain road. We were gassing up and heading to Saluda to race on dirt and Bert was Gassing up and heading to the drag strip. We wished each other good luck and headed out. Not only did Bert’s cars always look good they ran good.
While I am saddened by the loss, I rejoice knowing that I’ll see Bert again in Heaven one Day!

When my son called me on Saturday morning to tell me about Bert’s accident I could not believe it. We were so saddend by the news. We have known Bert for many years from drag racing. He was such a great guy, always smiling and so friendly. We are so sorry for what his family must be going through to lose such a wonderful person at such a young age. I had only met Bert a couple of times through a mutual friend, and he was always friendlly and cordial. The racing world has truly lost a great man. Praying for his family in this difficult time and hoping they will find peace and comfort.

To the family of this incredible man,
I am so very sorry to hear this news. I just stumbled upon this information today and I am very saddened to hear this. As many other messages have read, Bert always wore a smile. I can not ever remember seeing him or having the priviledge of chatting for a few minutes and him not smiling. He loved his family and his wife Vanessa and this world has lost a wonderful man and Heaven has gained another angel.
My prayers go out to the entire family. He will be missed but he will also ALWAYS be remembered!
